S. Korea's unification minister to visit Japan next week
SEOUL, May 18 (Yonhap) -- Unification Minister Chung Dong-young will make a trip to Tokyo, Japan, on May 25 to deliver a lecture on South Korea's regional policy, officials said Wednesday. Chung is to give a speech at the Nikkei Forum titled "South Korea's choice for peace and prosperity in Northeast Asia" during his two-day visit at the invitation of the forum. He will return to Seoul on May 26.

He has done little to promote anything other than his own career. 'F' him and the horse he rode in on. I hope that those over 50 are still alive to see him run in the next election and to remember the asshattery he's done in the past.

It might take Chung becoming president in order for someone to tell him he's not.

But really, is he that much better or worse than the bulk of other politicians? I can't see that he is. He's just as much a twit as the rest of them and, frankly, he fits right into the field.

If it was "just" his politics, then yeah I may have to agree with you.

Looking at only the facts of him; 1) Not "liking" the older generation, 2) Not doing anything for the suffering Norks that his dept. is supposed to support 3) His endless ramblings on matters that don't concern him 4) Going overseas in functions that are not his... ect. Yeah, those things are bad but just barely set him above the rest.

For me, it's his hair!! i thought you of all people would notice that?!? ;)

I've always paid more attention to Roh's hair. This is truly the Blue Club Administration.

As for Chung, though, a trip to Pyongyang seems to be in his sights. Maybe his travel agent could make it a one-way itinerary.

speaking of which, do you remember a report a few months back saying how Chung would be the interim leader of the North if it fell?

Do you remember where that was?

Jumping back up the list a bit...

I have to take question a couple of points about...

A) [Chung] not doing anything for the suffering Norks that his dept. is supposed to support.

Well, he does work for the South Korean people, so his charge is protect their interests. Is he doing that effectively? That's up for debate, but the South long ago stopped worrying about losing militarily to the North and instead began to dread actually defeating them. So, while I don't agree with his tactics, I can see that Chung - in some odd way - is doing his job on this front, rather like the Longshanks character in "Braveheart." A nasty (and highly fictionalized) king, but he was probably good for the English.

B)Going overseas on functions that don't concern him.

Maybe we're sick of seeing him everywhere, but I have to assume that he's been given these duties by his bosses. And do I really want to see more of Roh? Not particularly.

Hmmm, point

A) Well, true, he does work for the national Assembly of the ROK BUT part of the South Korean constitution gurantees rights/citizenship to ALL koreans, especially those in the North (should they want to come on down). When he made mention a few months back about NGOs causing trouble, I think it had less to do with protecting South Koreas interests and more to do with his own.

B)Actually I have heard of a "split in the camp" per say. That Ban Gi Mooon and Chung have butted heads on a number of occasions with Chung overstepping his bounds. He is not only the Unification minister but is also something akin to the security advisor. In this role he leads himself around.
